A RE-do of the Master Bathroom - a necessary project! So find out how with "leftover" paint, molding and a little creativity transformed this space for less than $100! Watch for "It's just You and Me"...coming soon! | |
My bedroom needed a change...and I needed a
So I did -
Other side projects... Freshening up the dining room with granite paint and new mirror.
|
Granite paint for $5 on the 'misfit' shelf at Lowes - mirror in the 'going out of business' sale at McMahon's...$25

When the girls and I moved into our home in the summer of '95 - it needed a lot of TLC!
Over-grown rhodies, bushes...the UGLY salmon beige with kind of a guacamole green trim...lotsa work to do!!!
The same week Lowe's opened its doors in Douglas County,
I decided it was time!
You know when you "wash a spot off the wall" what happens?
YEP - you have to wash the whole thing.
It took me a whole summer, but...I DID IT!

...seriously, good friends are hard to find - especially a professional contractor. Doors I couldn't do....
|
...to torpedo grey is better! That "farmer's" door?...Needs to go!
...This is SO MUCH BETTER! Man - These guys were awesome!

Notice the latis work on the corner of the deck. I bashed into it so many times with the lawn mower...it was cheap and thin - and fell apart easily. Who knows how many critters lived under there?
| ...so I pulled up the grass from the corner of the deck to my grape vine...dug down about 6-10 inches...bought some slate rock and 6 bags of pavers sand and there ya go! I yanked off the cheap latis...bought a thicker version and sealed off the corner. (No critters allowed) It looks cleaner, more decorative and I don't slam into the deck with the lawn mower! |
The kitchen - This is the only picture I found that completely showed what it was like when I moved in...(BTW - my favorite perch, with the phone in my ear - TYPICAL
With the spackle art I do - I applied it to the walls? Sooooo...
I wish you could have seen the wall when I first moved in. From floor to ceiling it was like a big "snapshot" of a lake with a fir tree. U-G-L-Y ! So, I sheet rocked over it - textured and painted. The chair rail really helped and I sponged the top 2/3. It was easy and fun. ***Lighting is always important. I learned that in my production days of staging. I replaced an ugly OLD florescent light with a track lighting. | Having the cupboard refaced...a new counter top...take off the old outdated ruffled curtains (and the big lug on the sink) it did make a huge difference. Doors have a cherry wood trim accents...plus, new handles (50-cents a piece in a sale bin at Lowe's) I had several coats of wallpaper to strip away from the walls and soffets...(gooey mess) but, ultimately textured/painted them with a dark sage.
The first week of May 2008...I splurged on a new refrigerator (Man..Lowe's should be paying ME...for all this free adverstising) One problem...old frig - 67".... NEW one 69"! The cupboard above didn't allow for it SOOOO...I bought a skill saw and cut the sucker off!
...Makes a big difference. |
...the bedroom...was taupe and dark jade!
Now....with Valspar "Cheyenne Red" brushed suede...lighter cream...detailed with Coffee brown matte painted Inch and 1/2 molding...COMPLETELY new again!!!
Front door from the inside...
Bright white against a "nutmeg" paint ... It's a warm color that feels more inviting. (Remember little nuance mirrors like right here? Reflections always add dimension and many times make areas look bigger!)
My house feels like a warmer, more colorful environment. Ultimately, it feels like HOME to me. The more I work on it (there's always something to do) it is a happy place to be. My taste may NOT be everyone's taste, but that's the fun - I would encourage everyone to take a good look at their house and start imagining what YOU want it to be. |
... I love white lights. I found a dollar a yard bin... and bought 17-yards of this white soft polyester (easy to clean) and swooped it through some old curtain rods. I wound the lights through it and I have to tell ya - it just makes for a warm room! I feel cozy and safe! __________________________________
(That was 5-years ago - it just wasn't good enough!) Changing colors AGAIN...but, keeping white lights on the tree...I like it better! Plus - I always tie my new colors together with my special ART!!!
...the cinnamon color - next to the nutmet that I sponged with cinnamon with a glaze...and copper accents.
Repainted Kenzie's room to give it a "guest room" appeal. Used Valspar's Brushed Suede 'Country Plum' and 'Sandstone'... Check out my new STUDIO... Valspar's Cool Night brushed suede paint is gorgeous! ...bought an Alvin Drawing Table Combo through Ebay - I NOW feel like a real artist! |
